The SR 160 has quietly exited Aprilia's Indian portfolio after several model cycles. Its place has now been taken by the SR 175, which features a more powerful and refined 174.7 cc air-cooled engine. The new engine produces 12.9 horsepower and 14.14 Nm of torque, an improvement over the SR 160's output of 11.27 horsepower and 13.44 Nm. This increase in performance makes the SR 175 noticeably more responsive and refined, particularly in urban riding conditions.
In addition to the mechanical upgrades, the SR 175 receives a full-colour TFT display, a feature shared with the Aprilia 457 series scooters. The model continues with the familiar LED headlight and taillight setup and retains styling cues that closely resemble those of its predecessor.
The discontinuation of the SXR 125 and SXR 160 represents the end of Aprilia's maxi-scooter offering in India. Unlike the SR 160, these models have not been replaced by any new product. The SXR scooters were distinguished by their larger and more upright bodywork, which delivered a stronger maxi-scooter presence on the road. They rode on 12-inch wheels, compared with the 14-inch wheels used on the SR series, giving them a taller and more substantial appearance.
Despite their unique styling and road presence, the SXR 125 and SXR 160 were mechanically identical to the SR 125 and SR 160, respectively. Both models used the same 125 cc and 160 cc engines as their SR counterparts, relying primarily on design, comfort and stance rather than mechanical differentiation.
With these changes, Aprilia's scooter lineup in India is now centred around the SR 125 and SR 175. The SR 125 is priced at approximately Rs 1.14 lakh, while the SR 175 is available at around Rs 1.21 lakh, both ex-showroom.
The absence of a replacement for the SXR range leaves a notable gap in Aprilia's Indian portfolio, particularly for buyers seeking a premium maxi-scooter with distinctive styling. For now, customers interested in such a design will need to consider the SR 175 or explore alternatives from other manufacturers in the 125 cc to 160 cc segment.
